Some Australians call the Cockatiel „Tiel,“ „Weiro,“ or „Quarrion,“ but it comes from the dry interior of Australia. These little parrots are roughly 12 to 13 inches long, and their long tail and expressive crest are what make them stand out. They lift or drop their crest to show how they feel. In the wild, males usually have yellow faces with orange cheek patches, while females have more muted gray faces and banded tail feathers. Cockatiels are known for being friendly and gregarious.
