Gender differentiation:
(Homomorphic) There are three signs to distinguish male macaws from female macaws. (First, size) Male macaws tend to be larger than females, while female macaws tend to be smaller than males. (Second, head shape) The head shape of male macaws tends to be larger and flatter, while the head shape of female macaws tends to be smaller and rounder. (Third, beak shape) The beak shape of male macaws tends to be rounder, while female macaws tend to have a narrower beak. However, these are only signs to distinguish between males and females; they do not guarantee the sex of the birds. Male and female macaws are homomorphic.
Nutrition:
Seeds, pellets, fruits, and vegetables must be available around the clock in a balanced manner. Squid bones should be provided for calcium, and vitamin blocks for vitamins. Water-soluble vitamins, such as the Nekton brand, are also ideal.
Care:
A very large cage is ideal for a macaw, providing ample space for playing and exercising. Cages made of stainless steel or powder-coated steel are well-suited. To keep the bird healthy and hydrated, food and water dishes must be filled at all times. Toys and treats are essential for the bird’s happiness. Offer the bird a bath in shallow water at least once a week, or more often, or mist it with water. Two to three hours of exercise per day are necessary. Allow the bird to spread its wings and flap them to exercise its wing muscles. Let the bird walk and climb to exercise its legs and feet, and allow it to chew on toys to exercise its jaw muscles.
Warning:
There will be occasional, quite loud screaming.
DNA
samples from birds/parrots are sent to a laboratory to determine and guarantee the bird’s/parrot’s sex. A DNA certificate is sent to the customer via email. The process takes 1–2 weeks; this time is added to the order processing time.
Care
involves trimming the wing feathers so that the bird/parrot cannot fly far, but may still be able to glide. Note that the wing feathers will grow back over time.
