Buy Ara hyacinth
Buy a hyacinth macaw . Hand-tame, very friendly and sweet, DNA-tested female hyacinth macaw. She is very funny, says „Hello“, „Come here“, „Peek-a-boo“ and loves to cuddle.
The hyacinth macaw, often called the Rolls-Royce of parrots due to its beauty, is the largest of all macaws. It averages about 107 cm in length and has a wingspan of nearly 1.20 m. Its weight ranges from 1200 to 1700 g. Hyacinth macaws are spectacular birds with cobalt-blue plumage, a black beak, and yellow to light orange skin patches around their dark brown eyes and the edge of their lower mandible. Hyacinth macaws typically lay 1 to 3 white eggs. They reach sexual maturity between 4 and 7 years of age.
Their enormous beaks are used to open and eat hard palm nuts. The lower jaw acts as a chisel to split the nuts, while the upper jaw serves as a breaking surface. These palm nuts are so hard that they often cannot be cracked with a hammer.
Care and feeding of hyacinth macaws
The ideal owner of a hyacinth macaw is someone who has already successfully kept many birds or has researched extensively, consulted experts, and knows exactly what they are getting into. Nevertheless, the hyacinth macaw is not a good first bird, as it can be quite demanding.
Hyacinth macaws have a very specific diet. In the wild, this bird’s diet consists almost exclusively of palm nuts from two specific palm species. Hyacinth macaws harvest the nuts from the trees in the wild. The bird also has a very special way of finding the nuts, which have already been stripped of their tough, fibrous outer shell: Hyacinth macaws search cattle pastures for dung containing the nuts. These are indigestible for the cattle, but easier for the hyacinth macaw to open.
Prices for Hyacinth Macaws
Hyacinth macaws are rarely found in pet shops with comprehensive services, as they are quite expensive. Buyers should therefore expect to pay over €3,000 for a young hyacinth macaw. A fully grown, breeding-ready bird will cost even more. Pairs fetch top prices, especially if they have already proven themselves and bred successfully.
Because of their rarity, many of these birds are not bred by beginners, but rather in breeding programs. Many breeders hope to eventually reintroduce this species into the wild, where its population is rapidly declining. It is almost unfair to the species to keep them as „pets only“ when there is a risk that this magnificent giant will disappear forever.
