Ball pythons are common in Ghana, Togo, and Benin in West Africa. Over the years, pregnant females are collected from throughout the region, the eggs are procured, and incubated in captivity. Then the mothers are released. Because so many were collected and so many hatched, dozens of different morphs were randomly hatched! This is the basis for all the captive-bred, U.S.-born specimens we now have.

All the ball pythons we sell are captive-bred. It’s amazing how many choices there are; there’s literally something for everyone.

We find that most people feed ball pythons incorrectly. Ball pythons WILL NOT EAT PINKIES! They will eat a mouse or rat as thick as the thickest part of their body. Ball pythons also like to hide and explore at night, so a red light bulb is best for warmth, sometimes combined with a Zoomed Snake Heat Pad. At least one warm side at 32–35°C and one cool side at 27–29°C. We recommend two hiding places for ball pythons.
